Call for Expressions of Interest: Women Economic Empowerment in a Low-Carbon COVID-19 Recovery

Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC) is pleased to announce a new research funding opportunity, implemented through its Sustainable Inclusive Economies division. This call for expressions of interest aims to advance the generation and use of context-specific evidence that can contribute to women’s increased economic empowerment in the Global South, in the context of lower-income countries’ responses to the COVID-19 pandemic and growing climate crisis.

Scope and Eligibility

This CAD$ 10 million call is made available through an open competitive process targeting organizations based in low- and lower-middle-income countries, in Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, South and South-East Asia, and the Middle East. It is designed for organizations that will contribute to building more inclusive and sustainable pandemic responses and recovery in low- and lower-middle-income countries and will support solutions-oriented research that addresses the following research questions:

• In COVID-19 responses and recovery, what policy responses, interventions, business and investment initiatives, and women-led actions and organizations can effectively support women’s economic empowerment through the provision of inclusive and decent employment opportunities while addressing the growing climate crisis and creating a pathway for a climate-resilient economy? Which interventions and solutions have the potential for scale? 
• What policies, business and investment initiatives, and support for small and medium-sized enterprises can promote women’s opportunities in sectors that have the highest potential to accelerate the transition towards a low-carbon economy, such as energy, transport, infrastructure, tourism, agriculture, and natural resource conservation?

May we be inspired and empowered to support people, frameworks, and resources to END POVERTY IN ALL ITS FORMS EVERY WHERE that all your children may know the abundant life your Son came to deliver. 2. God of plenty, we celebrate the beauty of the harvest. We delight in the systems and structures that exist, allowing us to know the 5 A’s (availability, accessibility, acceptability, appropriateness, agency) of food security. Help us to improve these systems, to share the manna you provide, as we work to END HUNGER, ACHIEVE FOOD SECURITY AND IMPROVED NUTRITION, AND PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE. 3. Help us to realize and repent for our sins, and TAKE URGENT ACTION TO COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE AND ITS IMPACTS to reconcile ourselves to you. 14. Robert Bigelow , a Las Vegas real estate mogul and Bigelow Aerospace, offers a million dollars to three people who answer a single (though not a simple ) question. However, as reported in the Clarín newspaper, he was introduced to the subject when in 1992 his son Rod Lee took his own life. Bigelow seems not to want to be convinced of the possibility of having a consciousness beyond death because as he told the Times “personally I am totally convinced of it”, however he wants a scientific answer.

It takes only 10 minutes to remove and replace an electric motor... 3. Faulty electric motors are NOT repaired in the dealership but are sent to a regional repair shop that repairs them with ROBOTS... 4. Your electric motor malfunction light goes on... so you drive up to what looks like a car wash, and your car is towed through while you have a cup of coffee... Then your car comes out on the other side with a new electric motor or component... 5. Gas stations will go away... 6. Street corners will have meters that dispense electricity... Companies will install electrical recharging stations... in fact, they've already started in the developed world... 7. Smart major auto manufacturers have already designated money to start building new plants that build ONLY electric cars... 8. The "Coal Industries" will go away... In the USA, young lawyers already don't get jobs (because of IBM's WATSON)... you can get legal advice within a few seconds so for the basic stuff... with 90% accuracy compared with 70% accuracy when done by humans.. So, if you're studying law, THINK AGAIN... There will be 90% fewer lawyers in the future, what a thought and only omniscient specialists will remain... 22. WATSON already helps nurses diagnosing cancer... it's 4-times more accurate and many times faster than human nurses... 23. Facebook now has a 'face recognition' software that can recognize faces better than humans... In 2030, computers will become more intelligent than humans... 24. Autonomous cars: In 2018 the first self-driving cars were already here... In the next few years, the entire auto industry will start to be disrupted... You won't want to own a car any more as you will call a car with your phone, it will show up at your location and drive you to your destination... 25. You will not need to park it, you will pay only for the 'driven distance' and you can be productive while driving. The very young children of today will never get a driver's license and they will never own a car... 26. This will change our cities because we will need 90% to 95% fewer cars... Because if you can work while you commute, or you can work from your home... people will abandon their towers to move far away to more beautiful and affordable properties. 33. Electric cars will become mainstream by about 2030... Cities will be less noisy because all new cars will run ONLY on electricity... 34. Cities will have much cleaner air... 35. Electricity will become incredibly cheap and clean, eventually free... 36. Solar production has been on an exponential curve for 30 years... but you can now see the burgeoning impact... and it's just starting to get ramped up... 37. Six years since the world leaders pledged to achieve prosperity for all on a clean planet, countless governments, UN entities, international organizations and NGOs have implemented game-changing innovations and breakthroughs to make that promise a reality. As the world battles a deadly pandemic and the worst economic crisis in 90 years, now is the time to share those good practices with the world. Your project could inspire others just like it around the world! In order to be considered in our compilation, your good practice should be: SDG-specific Results-focused Inclusive Accountable, sustainable and replicable Submissions will be reviewed by an Inter-Agency Team of experts from 24 UN Entities.
