About the World Bank Group Youth Summit

Established in 2013, the Youth Summit is an annual event hosted by the World Bank Group to engage with youth globally on the most pressing issues facing their generation. As the largest youth worldwide annual gathering at the World Bank Group, the primary goals of the Youth Summit are to:

CALL FOR DECADE OF ACTION SHORT STORIES

Dear Obi, The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is issuing a call for The Decade of Action Short Stories, an initiative targeted at young African creativity in an effort to broaden the conversation, awareness and re-imagination of the Sustainable Development Goals through fiction. Young Africans born in Africa or with either of the two parents as African are invited to submit their stories in English during phase 1 of the project. At the time of submission, writers should be between 15 and 35 years of age. According to the guidelines, stories are expected to be grounded on African perspectives, present or possible realities and futures as seen through the challenges of our times: climate change, environment, migration, health, technologies and innovation in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. They should capture the imagination around major challenges confronting the African continent such as eradication of poverty and reduction of inequalities; climate action for a healthy planet and achieving gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. Shortlisted entries will be included in a special, Decade of Action Anthology of Short Stories to be launched at the annual Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development to be held from 1-4 March 2020. FULLY FUNDED 5TH AFRICAN WORLD HERITAGE FORUM, 2020 TO S/AFRICA

5th African World Heritage Regional Youth Forum 2020 for young Africans (Fully Funded to South Africa)

Applications are open for the 5th African World Heritage Youth Forum, a capacity building exercise focusing on Youth, Entrepreneurship and Heritage Sustainability in Africa. The Forum places an emphasis on entrepreneurship skills development towards promoting and increasing African youth participation in the stewardship and promotion of World Heritage in Africa in a creative and innovative approach. The forum aims to:

ELIGIBILITY
 Thirty-five (35) young entrepreneurs from all African countries will be selected for the forum. Applicants must
 fulfil all of the following requirements:
 • African citizen between the ages: 18 - 35;
 • Minimum requirements: a post-secondary certified training and/or qualification;
 • Fluency in English (being the working language of the Forum) and ability to communicate in at least one
 of the other three official languages of the African Union (French, Portuguese and Arabic);
 • Personal attributes: motivated, active and driven individuals interested in learning how to assess the
 viability, feasibility, and desirability of new business ideas while engaging in a World Heritage network of young Africans eager to implement the outcomes of the forum in their home countries;

Benefits

The costs for the forum participation (return airfare, accommodation, meals, local transportation in South Africa) will be covered by AWHF, ICCROM and RIM. Selected participants shall meet their own local costs in the country of origin, as well as visa application costs to enter the Republic of South Africa.
